This area was settled originally in the late 1700s by mostly farmers. This area did not see much residential development until the General Electric Appliance Park opened in 1953.

Bit of trivia: In the late 19th century, it was called Lone Oak - but a town near Paducah already claimed that name for its post office, so the residents rearranged the letters and called it Okolona.
