Shortly after the Ironman competition that was held in the Louisville Kentucky metropolitan area, officials in Goshen Kentucky are planning for next year’s competition. While things went relatively smoothly, there are some areas of improvement. One of the competitors was injured at the intersection of US 42 and River Bluff Drive, when a van didn’t see a police officer directing traffic, saw the green light and ran into Tom Murphy.
There were more fans and spectators than was anticipated, and this resulted in them crowding into the road to cheer the competitors, but this caused them to move away from the crowds, and closer to oncoming traffic. Police installed barriers, and that seemed to help the situation.
There was still concern regarding La Grange KY, and the bicyclists riding amidst moving traffic. Transportation officials felt that it was impossible to close down the main arteries in LaGrange, which the Ironman route followed.
All in all though, it was a successful event. And I’m certain that it will be just that much bigger and better next year in 2008. Its a great event to have in the Goshen Kentucky community.
